I wonder how the development of the most used paid forum in the world will go on from now on… especially since it has been aquired by the leading operator of media and e-commerce websites for large ticket consumer purchases in cars, mortgage, real estate & travel, which has nothing to do with what Jelsoft has been developing until now.
Will the prices increase ? Will there be a much poorer support ? That always happens in a bigger company.
Official announcement at the Vbulletin Forums.
My thoughts exactly.
This is a unique situation where both Jelsoft and Invision are celebrating. Jelsoft for the acquisition $$$ and Invision for the inevitable increase in customer base.
Why would a company like that buy a forum software provider? Are they going to insert their links in the software?
Pretty weird.
What’s weird ?
The acquisition. Being a holder of three vBulletin licenses, I’m worried about the support quality in the future.
Anyway, I didn’t needed any support up until now.
I think I have more then 5 licenses.
I don’t think that the prices, will increase. The support will also be good.
I consider the script to be a good one out of the box, but the problems start when you try to customize it with hacks and also make a unique theme. Right now I am less pleased than I was one year ago when I started using it, but I won’t give it up since I am too stubborn.
I needed support for 2-3 times (after upgrading the script and having my hacks and theme messed up). I was contacted with support in 2-3 minutes. I was shocked at how fast they moved. I wasn’t pleased to hear I need to revert to the original theme and kill my hacks, but at least they tried. The support was very good and my problems solved in the end..
Even if I am not pleased with the script anymore, I have to confess that the support is top notch. It would be a pity for this to change.
I try to look at this in a positive way though. VB is a good script right now and if they also keep the support as good as it is, we’re safe. If not, there are always other options on the market.
