Google SitelinksI have been testing these Sitelinks for quite some time now on several websites, from new to very old, from few to zounds of visitors.

What are Sitelinks ? They are a collection of links, automatically chosen by Google’s algorithm, to appear below the result of website, linking to main pages of your website. They are randomly chosen, although you can block any link from appearing. We will discuss more about Sitelinks in the Google Sitelinks FAQ section below.

Recently, some of my websites got Sitelinks whilst I tried different ways of reaching this milestone.

Google Hot TrendsGoogle has introduced a top 100 searches words / phrases chart called Hot Trends. More than that, what we never had from Google (except the Zeitgeist), a daily history of top 100 searches.

The top was compiled starting from 15 May and continues till the day I posted this article (23 May).

Google has played with the interface layout a lot, over the years.

Now it’s settled with the tabs in the upper left part :

New search results layout

They also enhanced the bar that displays the number of searches and other information, to make it more appealing, with a gradient.

Google Operating SystemDid you know that Ionut Chitu’s Google Operating System blog is the most read Romanian website on the Internet ?

Ionut Chitu

He has even more readers then Darren Rowse:

Darren Rowse

Matt Cutts:

Matt Cutts

or Brian Clark:

Brian Clark

Congrats Ionut, once again. Seeing that you have been blogging out of passion (and not the desire to make money), and you’ve been doing that for a little over an year, you should receive the award of the year for the best “natural marketing”.

This post’s ideea started from Alex.

Update: I think Ionut is actually in the Top 10 bloggers worldwide, with close to 40K subscribers. I’m not talking about news websites like TechCrunch or GigaOM, but individual blogs, written by only one author.

Google Analytics just upgraded the interface we were all getting used to, with a new enhanced BETA version.

Google Analytics

Neither the Google Blog or the Google Analytics blogs have any posts yet, for this new interface facelift.

From the FAQ Section:

Many accounts already have access to the new version. If your account does not yet have access, you won’t have to wait long. Over the next several weeks, we will be migrating all existing Analytics accounts to the new Google Analytics interface.

Any insights ? How do you guys find the new interface ?

Update: The official Analytics blog published the news just now.

A friend of mine has had his AdSense account banned for click fraud.

He sent a reply to the AdSense Team, explaining that he didn’t do any fraud, or if fraud was the case there, he had no knowledge of it. Part of his reply was :

Considering that I can’t create a new AdSense account, will you allow me to rent the space in my website, to other AdSense publishers ?

Google just bought DoubleClick for $3.1 billion in CASH. That’s double the amount paid for YouTube.

Here is the FAQ. From the document we learn that :

  • DoubleClick has 1200 employees
  • It will operate independently for some time, and then it will be integrated in Google’s services

Techcrunch also reports the news.

Google TiSPGod, it’s final. Google has release Google TiSP, the new FREE in-home wireless broadband service.

Google TiSP is a fully functional, end-to-end system that provides in-home wireless access by connecting your commode-based TiSP wireless router to one of thousands of TiSP Access Nodes via fiber-optic cable strung through your local municipal sewage lines.

As far as I can see, Google is starting to send messages to searchers, when an already indexed URL found in the Google Serps is redirecting to another URL. This happens only when you are logged in your Google account (because otherwise, the redirect URL doesn’t show up).

Ok. I never thought this day will come, but since I wrote about Internet Explorer 7 optimized for Yahoo, Google has issued his own version of Internet Explorer 7 optimized for Google:

Optimized for Google with:

Google homepage you can personalize
Google Toolbar
Google Search as your default

When will the pain end ?

Later edit: Apparently, Jeremy noticed that Google’s Internet Explorer 7 optimized page was designed in a copy/paste manner with Yahoo’s previous one. Google has now changed the page to look different then Yahoo’s.

I wonder why does Google put a link on it’s frontpage, to a website that he KNOWS it can’t handle the traffic ?

I think the Join Red website (now offline), can’t even handle 2% of the traffic that Google is sending it now:

Join Red

Ken Moss, General Manager, Live Search announced:

Today, we are excited to announce that Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! are coming together in support of the SiteMaps protocol. The goal of this effort is to improve search results for customers around the world. This protocol enables site owners everywhere to tell search engines about the content on their site instead of having to rely solely on crawl algorithms to find it.

I’ve got something to suggest to some of the online services I use, features that could really make the day for a lot of their users.

I don’t expect representatives (except Unicredit’s) from these services to jump right ahead and take action on what I suggest, but at least take note of them.
