I just can’t believe my eyes anymore. Google has some REALLY major issues in the past few months.

The site: operator is screwed up, Linkvault is banned or not, websites get 5 billion indexed pages, pagerank is wrongly assigned (the 04/04/2006 update gave incredible scores to websites/pages that never had PR before, and which in reality had 50% or less of real page rank), and now Wikipedia’s homepage is not indexed in Google. WTF ?

Wikipedia index page is no more

It does have indexed pages at a regular site:en.wikipedia.org search though:

Wikipedia site operator is ok though

I guess I’m speachless.

There’s a 301 redirect on http://en.wikipedia.org/ which points to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page is indexed and has pagerank showing in the toolbar.

Interesting, though.

June 18th, 2006

Yeah, I know Bill. But think about it.. The 301’s landing page should’ve been shown when I search en.wikipedia.org right ?

Well it’s NOT. MSN and Yahoo sees this issue correctly right ? Why is Google so fucked up ?

Is 301 safe anymore ? Or even SEF ? (in Google).

Or what the heck is going on at the Plex ?

Yep. It’s not a banning, but it is an odd way of treating the homepage.

Moving on (because we can’t change a damn thing), will you be at SeoRoadShow ?

I want to go too :(

SeoRoadShow would have been a lot of fun, but I can’t make it. Doing some other traveling about then, but Copenhagen would have been a good time.

MIke : It’s the natural flow of the surrounding environment.

Bill: At least I have an excuse : I’m 3000 KM away ;)

So how can I find the real page rank for a website, if Google is reporting it incorrectly?

And one more thing: it’s speechless, not “speachless” :) You said “I guess I’m speachless.” :P

Hi Cristain, nice site! Hi Bill :)

From what I see, google has become more of the manually run business than a Search Engine, from the banning of LV and then this spammer getting a bazillion pages indexed and still claiming that his site had only 10k pages and that it was a google flaw!

What followed appeared more like a temporary fix, maybe they banned those IPs or something along the likes!

Also, the “site:” operator now appears too artifical, especially after all those recent cases we have witnessed!

Even the indexing accuracy of google has dropped several times than those of it’s close competitors Y!/MSN!

Dunno what all of it has come to though! lol

And weasel, Page ranks are something thats “issued by Google” just to determine the page importance!

It’s something stored on their systems and exported to websites worldwide!

I believe if it comes to Page rank, what Google says it is, is the correct PR! Since it is the lone PR issuing body, you cannot say that it shows you a wrong PR and someone else will show you a correct PR!

What we are talking about here, is the insta banning of sites and heavily fluctuating SERPs!

Hi Abhishek :)

From what I see, google has become more of the manually run business than a Search Engine

When automatic filters and computing power fails, *hand jobs* come to bear.

My concern is that these manual human interventions won’t resolve a thing. Not now, not ever. Google has to build something automatic.

Hi Cristain,

My concern is that these manual human interventions won’t resolve a thing. Not now, not ever. Google has to build something automatic.

That’s exactly what am trying to imply! As again, *hand jobs* (lol)
are needed only when automation fails, so why and how did this happen ? Ain’t we talking about the biggest SE of the world ?
Ok, if it happens once, understandable, but what about the operators? Why does Matt Cutts go about giving round answers about the “site:” operator! What’s with the SERP dance ? Unfortunately google actually is moving down :(

Had this been an issue with some small time company, we could have easily passed by, but it’s “Google”, a company which initiated a SE revolution!

Google is lucky enough that Baidu is not working in english world.Otherwise Google is providing too much chances for competitors to beat them now.

But I thought that now google has big stake in baidu?

July 3rd, 2006

As far as I know, Google has about 3% of Baidu (I read that back in 2005).

Wikipedia main page is back on Google index, but Google is really messed up now a days. I see tons of spam on many top keywords.
